Born in Arkansas to a farmer, Al Green had been interested in music from an early age. Touring in the mid-fifties he got a taste of the musical life and was inspired by many early R&B artists such as Jackie Wilson. Al Green’s first massively successful released was ‘Al Green Gets Next to You’ in 1970 which contained four gold singles. As Al Green continued to develop his musical style he continued to become more popular, reaching the heights of his hero Jackie Wilson. By the end of the 70s Al Green had hit his peak and continued to record and perform original works.
His music had shifted away from his early works and more towards faith-based music due to personal struggles and events that occurred in the mid 70s. Becoming a pastor when his career slowed down Al Green began recording gospel music and revived his career. His upcoming album titled ‘Lay it Down’ is sure to impress, and anyone able to see Al Green live will get a taste of classic R&B music much like James Brown and Sam Cooke.
